Who are we?
We are YJ Football, a bunch of football fans that want to bring you all kinds of different content related to football. The content we create will cover different aspects of the sport such as the latest happenings in world football, the best football gear out there, and even tutorials on skills and tricks to help you impress your mates.
Our aim is to create high quality content that all football fans will enjoy.
The idea for YJ Football was first conceived over a delicious half chicken meal at Nandos at the city shopping mall. We thought it would be a fun idea to create videos and content about football. Yaz was knowledgeable about world football and the latest products such as football boots while Jono had the playing and coaching experience. The hardest part of starting a football content brand was thinking of a name. After scratching our heads over and over, we came up with YJ Football – Yaz Jono Football. Very creative, we know. Since then we have started creating content on everything we think other football fans would want to see.

Football Boot Aficionado and Know-it-All
Hey! Welcome to my blurb. I’m Yaz, I am from the Maldives but live in New Zealand. Although I did occasionally play and watch football growing up, it wasn’t until 2008 that I fell in love with football. That year, while I was back in Maldives on holiday, our national team had made it to the final of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) cup. I was lucky enough to get tickets to watch the game against India. Maldives had never won the title before so being in the final was a big deal to us. The game was also the first time I had ever been to a live game. The whole event was nothing short of spectacular. I was kitted out in a red Maldives kit with a number 7 stuck on my back. I remember seeing so many supporters in the stadium screaming and chanting to get our team going. The game was very even throughout until a long range effort from one of our midfielders secured us a dramatic win over our neighboring rivals. The crowd went nuts! That moment when the final whistle blew, I knew I wanted to be a part of this amazing sport. Ever since, I have read everything I could, watched every game I could and played as much as I could. It had become a passion of mine and I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of it.
Favorite Team: Manchester United. I used to watch the Red Devils play in the Premier League with my grandpa. They were the team that he supported so I guess I became a fan of them from then on.
Favorite Player: Cristiano Ronaldo. Yes I am a shameless Ronaldo fan. Since his early days at United, when he used to speed down the sidelines with light speed step overs, he has been my idol. His sheer determination to be the best and the hard work he puts in every day is truly inspirational. I’ve lost count of the number of CR7 jerseys in my closet.
1st XI Captain and Futsal Specimen
How’s it going guys, I’m Jono and this is a little bit about me. I from New Zealand, yeah that place that isn’t always on your map.
I don’t remember a time I wasn’t playing football or futsal. At this point in time I have been playing for around 18 years and since six years old I was learning skills and juggling tricks, practicing with my dad after school and weekends. I mainly play as an attacking left or right back but have also played holding midfield and centre back. In the last 7 years I have played in New Zealand’s Northern Premier football league, represented my region (WaiBop) in futsal for 70+ games at the highest level. I have also played football overseas and represented New Zealand at the University futsal World cup in Kazakhstan (2018).
Favourite Team: Barcelona. When I was growing up, I followed Ronaldinho, and at the beginning he was a Barcelona. As soon as I saw the way they played, with finesse and skill, overall dominating games, made me love Barca.
Favourite Attacker: Ronaldinho. The most creative and happiest player on the pitch. I was fascinated with his intensity and enjoyment when he playing.
Favourite Defender Player: Puyol. He was strong in challenges but calm and composed when organising defence, always managing the players around him. Great leader.
Both these players were a massive inspiration for me. Both being someone to look up to, with one who was always having fun and being creative on attack, while the other show me elegance and class on defence.
